About
Dr. Charles Cant
Before Significant Figures, two decades in healthcare and diagnostics. Now I build the software and technical infrastructure I wished existed back then.
Background
I hold a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Max-Planck Institute in Munich, and spent the following years in industry — leading an R&D team at Roche that developed in vitro diagnostic assays for cardiology, then moving into commercial and strategic roles, including several years as an international product manager for a portfolio of critical care diagnostics. For the past decade, on behalf of industry and independently for non-profits, I've worked directly with clinicians on medical education initiatives — including the GigaNode network, which is how Significant Figures' work with VFPM began.
How I work
That background shapes how I build software now: directly with the people who'll use it, scoped tightly to a real problem, and maintained for the long run rather than shipped and forgotten. Significant Figures grew out of the same instinct that drove the clinical work — building the tools and infrastructure that let specialists focus on what they're actually good at.
